10 ADHD Friendly Date Ideas

Those of us with ADHD need some extra excitement. Sitting in a movie theatre is not it! Here are some more appealing date ideas that both lovebirds and aspiring lovebirds can enjoy!

Number 1: Put on your dancing shoes and let’s go dancing!!! What better way to get moving than to take a dance lesson together. Learning a new style of dance is not only a challenge (ADHD brains love a challenge) but it also gives you an opportunity to test out your chemistry on the dance floor ;). Learn to Salsa or Step or even Kompa if you’re up for the challenge. Next time you’re at a party together you can show off your new moves. Here’s a money saving tip - Find a dance lesson on Youtube and pretend your living room is a dance studio.

Number 2: Skydiving Anyone? OK, so you can’t exactly get to know someone better while flying from the sky, however, you can create a bond by experiencing a first time together. Even if either of you have tried skydiving before, the rush still creates a bond. I should mention that indoor skydiving is probably a more feasible option. Other fun first time activities include a helicopter ride,

Number 3: Local Festivals & Events Have you ever tried googling “things to do in my city tonight”? Last weekend I tried this and I was intrigued by an event taking place at a local bar. It was little people wrestling. Maybe this isn’t your thing, maybe it is. The point is, there are a plethora of events happening right in your city that you have no idea about. Another cool event was an evening of adult play. This was held at a local museum and was a child free zone for playing. There were giant legos, bubbles, obstacle courses, and the whole point was to bring back good old fashion childhood fun. Take advantage of local festivals or get lost in a new part of town together. The spontaneity and novelty of a new adventure will be a big hit!

Number 4: Play with Puppies If you did not know, puppies make everything better! Why? Because they naturally increase our dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin levels. If you have a lover who is having a rough week, tell them to hop in the car and take them to your nearest puppy store. The cuteness over-load will be an immediate mood booster and you’ll get all the credit!

Number 5: Make a candle or pottery together I cannot be the only one who has ever wanted to reenact that famous Patrick Swazy scene in Ghost (if you know, you know). Pottery is a fun activity to try together. Like visiting a DIY candle shop, you get to take home your souvenir which is a nice bonus. Don’t feel like leaving your home? Have a candle kit shipped to you!

Number 6: Paint Night Speaking of being able to take home a souvenir from your date, paint night is another great option! These have become quite creative. I have seen tipsy painting, trap music painting, and even paint kits sent to your home like the ones this talented young artist provides. Show off your artistic or not so artistic side. Your date will appreciate the out of the norm, night.

Number 7: Explore the city through a scavenger hunt I did this before to celebrate a friends birthday and it was a lot of fun! We downloaded an app and it gave us clues which required us to walk around downtown. All the while, we got the chance to explore, learn, and get some steps in. Be spontaneous and rent some of those cool scooters or bikes most down towns have.

Number 8: No surprise that a surprise getaway made the list “Pack a bag, we’re going on a trip” is one of the best texts one can receive. In fact, I think this sentence is my love language!

Number 9: Try a new recipe or cooking class together Think outside the box and try cooking a new cuisine in the ‘Date night Cookbook’. Play bartender together and have fun naming your drinks. If you prefer to leave the house, find a cooking class to attend. What will you try first, dessert or a cocktail? Or, a dessert cocktail?

Number 10: Comedy show Who doesn’t need a good laugh? Catch a comedian in town. Maybe you can build the courage to try your own set at amateur night.

Honorable mentions: : Hiking, fishing, poetry night, explore a new beach!
